UC San Diego USP Collaboration
This initiative is a collaboration between UC San Diego's Department of Urban Studies & Planning 165B course "Technology with Communities" and Logan Heights Communities. The course utilizes an innovative approach that integrates technology into Community Engaged Learning (CEL) to enhance the accumulation of advanced and situated Technological Capital within underserved communities. This involves a learning process wherein action-teams of students and residents undertake community-driven projects aimed at overcoming conceptual and geographical barriers.
What is Community EngagedLearning?
The course utilizes an inclusive approach which targets a reciprocal ,shared collaboration. The program pioneers a unique blend of technology and Community Engaged Learning to cultivate diverse Technological Capital within underinvested neighborhoods. The course engages students with residents in action-teams, which are responsible to develop a shared project that will meet local needs and desires. Through this holistic approach, participants not only overcome conceptual and geographical barriers but also ignite a wave of meaningful change that resonates throughout the community.
Class Instructor
Mor Shilon Ph.D, is a sociologist and an urban planner focusing on inclusive theories and methodologies for analyzing socio-spatial engagements in diverse urban settings.

Logan Heights, a historic and culturally diverse neighborhood in San Diego, California, has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Established as a working-class neighborhood, it has been home to various immigrant communities who have significantly shaped the community at large.
