Art Group Project

Developing the Project

The Arts Group is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the vibrant history and culture of Logan Heights through community-driven initiatives. Before launching our latest project, we developed a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for a new mural at 30th and Commercial St.

This fundraiser aimed to support local artists by securing essential materials such as scissor lifts, paints, and other supplies needed for the mural’s completion. Beyond funding a single piece of public art, this campaign emphasized the power of grassroots support and showcased how collective action can sustain community-driven projects.

By involving local residents, businesses, and supporters from across San Diego, we reinforced the idea that public art should be a shared effort, one that reflects and uplifts the community’s voices rather than imposing an external vision.

The Project

Our project bridges the gap between artists, the local community, and the broader San Diego region by providing a platform for underrepresented artists and fostering community pride.

To highlight Logan Heights as a cultural hub, we created a digital mural map and a detailed brochure, making public art more accessible to both residents and visitors. These resources document the evolving narratives behind murals, showcasing the work of local artists while preserving their stories and contributions.

To maximize accessibility and engagement, the brochures will be distributed to community spaces such as the Logan Heights CDC, the Soap Factory, and local coffee shops. This initiative ensures that the art and the voices behind it remain visible and appreciated by all.

Conclusion

To maximize accessibility, we are distributing the brochure to key community spaces, including the Logan Heights CDC, the Soap Factory, and local coffee shops. Our approach has always been to uplift rather than impose, to speak with rather than for the community.

By stepping back and allowing artists to lead the way, we have created a resource that is both useful and reflective of Logan Heights' artistic spirit. This project reinforces that art is not just self-expression but a powerful tool for connection and cultural preservation.

Simply put, this initiative bolsters the idea that art is a means of bringing people together, empowering local voices, and preserving cultural identity for generations to come.
