Food Justice Project
The Food Justice Project concentrates on tackling the issue of "food deserts" in Logan Heights. In order to address this issue, they engage in meetings with local community business owners of small convenience stores in Logan Heights.

About
The team leading the UC San Diego Sustainable Food Program initiative is dedicated to implementing sustainable solutions that not only provide access to affordable fresh food but also promote healthy eating habits and contribute to the overall well-being of the Logan Heights community.

The Project
The team is working in close collaboration with two stores : Daniel’s Market and V&D Market.
A metal shelf has been installed in each store to be replenished with fresh produce on a weekly basis. The store owners monitor sales while the team provides regular reports. The ultimate aim of the experiment is to gather data showcasing the demand for fresh food within the Logan Heights community. This data will serve as a foundation for future collaborations with organizations, ensuring the sustainability and longevity of the project.

The result
The community is enhanced through a small yet impactful initiative that addresses the provision of fresh fruits and vegetables to areas identified as food deserts. This project aims to cultivate ongoing partnerships with shop owners and fresh food suppliers, ensuring the sustained success and longevity of the project.
